Gymnastics plays an important role in sports and in everyday life, by helping children to learn to manage their bodies efficiently and safely. It is designed to promote strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and body control. Gymnastics is in it's simplest form a body management activity. It includes learning to develop locomotor and balance skills as well as body and spatial awareness.
Gymnastics at Jets offers a structured and focused learning environment. This develops the following skills in your child:
It is always a challenge to be a successful gymnastics coach. Not many other youth activities deal with having to overcome your fears. Our instructors are professionals who have been given the responsibility to:
Provide an enjoyable & safe experience.
Teach gymnastic skills.
Help children feel good about themselves as they are involved in physical activity.
New skills at Jets are taught using the I.D.E.A. method:
"I" is for introduction of the skill.
"D" is to demonstrate the skill.
"E" is to explain the skill.
"A" is for attending to the gymnasts while they are practicing.
The lesson plans are put together in the following manner: Warm-up, review and practice previously taught skills, teach and begin working on new drills and skills, warm-down and evaluation. Lesson plans allow practice time to capitalize on the instruction being given by your gymnasts teacher. The following methods are used: stations, circuit training, individual instruction, group instruction, and ample equipment and time on the equipment. The result is student success and satisfaction.
Tasks are appropriate to each level so students feel challenged but not overwhelmed. The tasks are modified within the group for students who are ready to move on and for those who are having difficulty completing skills. These modifications are made at each event, in gymnastics we call them progressions.
If you are concerned that your child has been placed incorrectly please speak to the instructor or to the receptionist and we should be able to make some changes within the group or find a more appropriate group for your gymnast.
